Day 2: Settling with homemade washers

We spent most of our day finishing up shopping. Uri and Jordan went with Tempa to the street markets to find washers and blue while Stacey, Stacy, and Haleemah went with Tsering to get the bamboo charcoal.

Uri & Jordan’s journey to the street markets was apparently tiring since it was still hard to communicate with the shop owners exactly what we needed. They ended up having to buy rubber sheets that we would have to cut and fit ourselves for our gaskets.

Stacey, Stacey, & Haleemah’s journey entailed obtaining bamboo charcoal, cloth for the fabric filter, and buckets. Tsering had to get the bamboo charcoal by calling the company. Then, we simply met up with one of the employees outside of his office and we exchanged money for the bamboo charcoal.

After getting bamboo charcoal we headed to IKEA. Yes, out of all places IKEA was the most successful. It was the most organized and was the easiest to buy a variety of things in one place. We bought cloth and since we couldn’t find standard buckets anywhere, we supplemented with empty trash cans. The empty trash cans had a flip top so it actually was better than a standard bucket because the cloth could be held by the trash can top as opposed to a simple string; a benefit of improvising!
